Edward’s Story
Regeneration 1 didn’t start as a “program.” It started with a sense of responsibility - seeing people who needed help pushed to the margins, and knowing it wasn’t right to look away.
Around COVID, when the world shut down and many churches and community resources paused, Edward Roberts and his wife leaned in. They went out into the community - bringing food, clothing, and basic necessities to people who were still hungry, still struggling, and still in need of connection.
But the work began even earlier.
In 2010 Edward began his work in Prison Ministries. He facilitated a weekly 12 step Christian program. After years of minimal attendance he realized the residents needed more and he partnered with Diane Irvin Crested an Every step Counts. This curriculum wasn’t just spiritual but was a wholistic approach to behavior modification.
Edward knows that truth personally.
His lowest point came in 2005 during his last arrest. Days later, after getting his car back, he found a brick of heroin the police had missed. In that moment, he saw it as divine intervention… and a final warning. He knew he couldn’t go back.
That was the turning point. Edward began doing the deeper work of recovery- learning how to live without substances and rebuilding the parts of life that addiction and bad decisions had damaged. He went back to school, learned a trade, committed to growth, and started building a future that once felt out of reach. And he didn’t do it alone - his mother stood by him with unconditional love, and the woman who would become his wife believed in him through the process.
Faith became the foundation. Not as a label, but as strength - especially when willpower ran out. And as Edward’s life changed, the calling became clear: if there’s a way out, you don’t gatekeep it. You go back and help someone else find it.
That’s what Regeneration 1 is today.
Not just a place to stay - a spiritual, holistic community built for real transformation. Because too many programs address the surface while people are still carrying the underlying pain, triggers, and patterns that keep them stuck. At Regeneration 1, the focus is deeper: spiritual formation, personal development, mental and emotional health, accountability, and practical life skills - the kind of support that helps someone rebuild from the inside out.
And the support doesn’t end at “graduation.” Regeneration One is committed to community - because life will still bring challenges, and no one is meant to face them alone.
Edward calls it “regeneration” because it’s about restoring identity. Too many people have had their identity shaped by addiction, incarceration, trauma, and labels. Regeneration 1 exists to help individuals recover what was lost: purpose, dignity, and the belief that change is possible.
Join us if you believe people deserve more than a second chance - if you believe in restoration, structure, and community. Your partnership helps create safe transitional housing, recovery support, and a pathway to lasting transformation.
